Andradite | Sferlun, Italie - Micromount
A fine specimen of andradite, variety demantoid, from the Sferlùn asbestos mine, Vallone del Cengiaccio, Lanzada, Val Malenco, Lombardy, Italy, a classic locality for Italian demantoid garnets.
The specimen features a well-individualized dodecahedral crystal, with broad, clearly developed faces and sharply defined edges. The crystal is embedded in a matrix of fibrous chrysotile, a characteristic association of the Sferlùn material, where demantoid crystals occur in asbestos-filled fractures cutting serpentinite.
